EYFS and Year 1 – Class

In EYFS & Year 1, your teachers are Abigail Stansfield, Catherine Savage, and Elizabeth Bowers.

Your interveners are April Hunt, Libby Warren, Mandy King, and Melissa Ford.

Your project questions will be:

  • What makes me unique?
  • Who are our real life superheroes?
  • Can we help story characters? Are giants always ‘baddies?’
  • Is there a world beyond Barrowford?
  • How is India different from the UK?
  • How can we care for endangered animals?

Learning Time

There will always be a visual timetable in the classroom.

This is what a day will usually look like:

PE/Woodland/BFC

  • Our PE session is every Thursday morning – Year 1 will need to come dressed in their sports clothes. EYFS will need to bring their P.E kits to school to get changed as a learning opportunity. Children can leave their kits on their peg.
  • Our Woodland session is every Friday morning. Wellies need to be left in school. Please also provide waterproof clothing.

Library Visits

We will visit the library once a term.

Assemblies

  • Monday – R&G, SDGs & UNCRC & In The Media Monday (Picture News)
  • Tuesday – Picture Book
  • Wednesday – I Wonder Wednesday
  • Thursday – Lyfta
  • Friday – Celebration Assembly
  • Every week you will learn about a different country, artist, music genre and a poem.
  • Singing Assembly will be on a Tuesday afternoon.
  • We will have a whole class celebration assembly every Friday afternoon.

Playtime

You will play Playworks games with your friends. These will teach you how to take turns, follow rules, lose and win and be part of a team.

Lunchtime

  • You will order your lunch in the morning or bring a packed lunch from home.
  • At lunchtime, you will wash your hands and then eat your lunch in the classroom.
  • There will be some time to play out, playing Playworks games.

Toilets

If you need the toilet, just ask a grown up. They can support you with your care and hygiene needs.

Trips, Visits & Celebrations

  • There will be a school trip linked to a project.
  • We will go and listen to the Halle Orchestra (YEAR 1) at the Bridgewater Hall in the Spring Term.
  • People may visit our class to help with our projects.
  • We will celebrate Christmas, Eid, Fathers’ Day, Mothers’ Day, World Book Day, Harvest, Easter, birthdays and lots of other events during the school year.
  • EYFS will lead a whole school assembly about Mother’s Day on 13/3/26 at 2.30pm.
  • EYFS will also have a graduation assembly on 14/7/26 at 10.00am.
  • Year 1 will lead the Father’s Day assembly on 19/6/26 at 2.30pm.

End of the day 

  • There will always be a story at the end of every day.
  • At hometime, your teachers will open the EYFS/1 doors and call your name.

Home Learning & Reading Books

  • You will get home learning on Friday. This will be on Seesaw (log ins to follow) and there will sometimes be a task on paper for you to complete.
  • Your reading book will be changed every Friday. We strongly encourage you to read with your child as often as you can to strengthen their reading journey.
