Artist of the Week

Artist of the Week at Barrowford School

As part of our Cultural Capital curriculum, Barrowford School’s Artist of the Week program inspires creativity, encourages self-expression, and broadens pupils’ understanding of the art world. This initiative is carefully planned to align with other aspects of our cultural calendar, creating meaningful connections across subjects and enhancing our children’s appreciation for global and historical contexts.

Each week, we focus on a new artist, exploring their life, work, and unique contributions to the art world. Our approach includes:

  • Introduction to the Artist: A detailed exploration of the artist’s background, including their style, medium, and cultural significance.
  • Art in Action: Pupils delve into the artist’s techniques and themes through discussions and often creative projects, experimenting with ideas inspired by the featured artwork.
  • Discussion and Reflection: Classes discuss the artist’s impact on art and society, fostering an appreciation for different perspectives and the power of creative expression.

Through this program, we aim to:

  • Cultivate an understanding and respect for diverse cultures, histories, and artistic styles.
  • Build confidence in pupils’ creative abilities and encourage self-expression.
  • Highlight the role of art in shaping and reflecting the world around us.

This initiative often connects with other areas of our curriculum, such as history, literature, and global awareness, providing a cohesive and enriching learning experience. By celebrating a wide variety of artists, from classical to contemporary, we inspire our pupils to see the world through new, creative lenses and develop a lifelong appreciation for art.

The Artist of the Week program at Barrowford nurtures a love for art and creativity, helping children to understand their own potential as artists and thinkers in a diverse and connected world.

Artists we will explore this year include:
