Our Year 5 Teachers
In Year 5, your teachers are Jez Richardson & Sharon Khan
Interveners are Caroline Gregg, Monika Dyl, Selina Ahmed and Lorna Taylor
They are excited about the learning you are doing in this year group.
Your project questions will be:
- Who do you think you are?
- Humans or nature: which is most important?
- Is war ever right?
Learning Time
There will always be a visual timetable in the classroom.
This is what a day will usually look like:
- 8:45 – 9:10 Morning activity/Register
- 9:10 – 9:30 Spellings
- 9:30 – 10:00 Guided reading
- 10:10 – 10:30 Break
- 10:30 – 11:15 English
- 11:15 – 12:00 Maths
- 12:00 – 1:00 Lunch
- 1:00 – 1:15 Register/Mindfulness
- 1:15 – 2:30 Project
- 2:30 – 3:00 Assembly
- 3:00 – 3:30 Storytime
Music
You will learn the Ukele this year. Music lessons are on Friday Morning.
PE/Woodland/BFC
- Our PE session is every Friday afternoon
- Our Woodland session is every Tuesday afternoon
- The swimming pool is coming in November 2025.
Library Visits
We will visit the library once a term.
Assemblies
- Monday – R&G, SDGs & UNCRC & Picture News
- Tuesday – Singing Assembly
- Wednesday – I Wonder Wednesday & Picture Book
- Thursday – LYFTA
- Friday – Celebration Assembly
Every week you will learn about a different country, artist, music genre and a poem. Singing Assembly will be on Wednesday afternoon.
Playtime
You will play Playworks games with your friends. These will teach you how to take turns, follow rules, lose and win well and be part of a team.
Lunchtime
- You will order your lunch in the morning or bring a packed lunch from home.
- At lunchtime, you will wash your hands and then eat your lunch in the classroom.
- There will be some time to play out, playing Playworks games.
Toilets
If you need the toilet, we will go during the morning break, before lunch and at around 2pm in the afternoon. If you desperately need the toilet at any other point of the day please let an adult in Year 5 know.
Trips, Visits & Celebrations
- There will be a school trip linked to a project.
- There will be a residential at Beckside Farm near Keswick in the Autumn Term.
- We will go to Young Voices in the Spring Term
- We will go and listen to the Halle Orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall in the Spring Term.
- In the Spring term we will experience a Wilderness Day activity with all our friends.
- People may visit our class to help with our projects.
- We will celebrate Christmas, Eid, Fathers’ Day, Mothers’ Day, World Book Day, Harvest, Easter, birthdays and many other events during the school year.
End of the day
- There will always be a story at the end of every day.
- At home time, your teachers will take you onto the playground to meet your parents. Please make sure your teacher knows who you are leaving with at the end of the day.
Home Learning & Reading Books
- You will get home learning on Monday. It will be on Seesaw.
- Your reading book will be changed every Tuesday.
