Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium Strategy at Barrowford School

The Pupil Premium is a government initiative that provides additional funding to schools, aiming to address educational inequalities by closing the achievement gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. This funding is in addition to the school’s standard budget and is targeted at supporting pupils eligible for free school meals (FSM) or other defined disadvantaged groups.

Our Vision at Barrowford School

At Barrowford, we are dedicated to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. Our Pupil Premium strategy is designed to provide targeted support, remove barriers to learning, and foster academic progress, personal growth, and well-being.

Who Does the Pupil Premium Support?

This funding is specifically allocated to support pupils who:

  • Are currently eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have been eligible within the last six years.
  • Are in the care of the local authority or have previously been in care.
  • Are from families of service personnel.

The goal is to ensure these pupils have equitable access to resources and opportunities, helping to bridge gaps in achievement and development.

Our Approach

At Barrowford School, we prioritise long-term impact through a focused strategy built on five key areas:

  1. High-Quality Teaching:
    • Enhancing teaching practices through professional development and evidence-based methods to provide personalised and effective instruction.
  2. Targeted Academic Support:
    • Delivering tailored interventions and additional resources in core areas like reading, writing, and mathematics to support individual learning needs.
  3. Enrichment and Wider Opportunities:
    • Offering all pupils access to educational trips, extracurricular activities, and enrichment programs to build confidence and enhance learning experiences.
  4. Pastoral and Emotional Support:
    • Promoting mental health and resilience through mentoring, counseling, and programs designed to support emotional well-being and social development.
  5. Engaging Families:
    • Collaborating with families to ensure they are well-equipped to support their child’s educational journey, fostering a strong partnership between home and school.

Evaluating Impact

We regularly assess the effectiveness of our Pupil Premium initiatives, using data and feedback to refine our approach and ensure the funding delivers meaningful outcomes. This ongoing evaluation helps us target resources where they are most needed, ensuring all pupils have the opportunity to succeed.

At Barrowford School, we are proud of our commitment to unlocking the potential of every child. Our Pupil Premium strategy reflects our dedication to equity, inclusivity, and building a school community where every pupil can achieve their best.
