PE and Sports Premium for Primary Schools

PE and Sports Premium at Barrowford School

The PE and Sport Premium is a government initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of physical education and sports in primary schools. This funding is designed to foster a culture of physical activity, improve teaching standards, and encourage pupils to lead active, healthy lifestyles. Schools can utilise the funds to broaden access to sports, improve facilities, and provide enriching physical education experiences.

Our Vision at Barrowford School

At Barrowford, we recognise that physical activity is a vital component of a healthy and balanced life. Our mission is to ensure every child has the opportunity to engage in sports and physical activities that inspire joy, foster personal growth, and nurture a lifelong passion for being active.

What Does the PE and Sports Premium Aim to Achieve?

The PE and Sports Premium funding is intended to help pupils:

  • Build confidence and competence in physical activities.
  • Explore a wide variety of sports, uncovering new interests and talents.
  • Develop teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusion through participation and competition.

How We Use the PE and Sports Premium

At Barrowford School, our strategy is centered around creating sustainable improvements by focusing on:

  • Empowering Teachers: Providing professional development to ensure engaging and effective PE lessons.
  • Expanding Opportunities: Introducing pupils to diverse sports and activities to meet a variety of interests.
  • Enhancing Resources: Investing in quality equipment and facilities to support PE and active play.
  • Encouraging Participation: Organising school-wide and inter-school sports events that foster excitement and pride.
  • Promoting Well-Being: Offering activities that support not only physical fitness but also mental and emotional resilience.

Swimming Requirements

A key part of the PE strategy is ensuring all pupils are water-safe by the end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6). This includes:

  • Swimming at least 25 meters.
  • Demonstrating basic water safety skills.

Swimming lessons are typically offered in Years 5 and 6, with water safety education integrated into the curriculum across all year groups to ensure readiness and confidence in the water.

Evaluating Our Progress

We regularly assess the impact of our PE and Sports Premium initiatives to ensure they are delivering meaningful, sustainable benefits. By emphasising skill-building, enjoyment, and inclusivity, we aim to create a school culture that values and embraces active, healthy lifestyles.
