Online Safety

Online Safety at Barrowford School

At Barrowford School, we place great importance on teaching children how to stay safe when using the internet. In today’s digital age, it is crucial that our pupils understand the risks and responsibilities associated with online activity. Our online safety curriculum is designed to ensure that children develop the skills and knowledge they need to engage with digital technologies safely, responsibly, and with confidence.

Our Approach to Online Safety

We cover key areas of online safety to help children navigate the digital landscape and avoid potential dangers:

  • Content: Children are taught that not all content on the internet is appropriate or reliable. They learn to critically assess the information they come across online and understand the importance of verifying sources.
  • Contact: Pupils are educated on the safe use of communication technologies. We discuss appropriate behaviour when interacting with others online, ensuring that children are aware of the risks of online contact and understand how to interact respectfully and safely.
  • Conduct: Children are encouraged to think about the impact of their online behaviour. We explore how harmful actions, such as cyberbullying or inappropriate sharing of information, can have serious consequences. Pupils learn how to manage their behaviour, and report concerns to trusted adults.
