Lyfta

Lyfta at Barrowford School

At Barrowford School, we are committed to providing meaningful and immersive learning experiences that ignite curiosity, nurture empathy, and foster a global perspective. One of the ways we achieve this is through our use of Lyfta Storyworlds—an innovative educational platform that brings real-world stories and diverse perspectives to life.

What is Lyfta?

Lyfta offers interactive, cinematic learning experiences that connect children with authentic human stories from around the globe. Through virtual 360° environments, soundscapes, documentary films, and rich media articles, students are immersed in the lives, cultures, and professions of inspiring individuals.

These Storyworlds enable children to explore real places, meet remarkable people, and engage with themes such as resilience, kindness, and global citizenship. Carefully curated to spark curiosity and foster empathy, the stories provide valuable life lessons and deepen children’s understanding of the world.

Why Lyfta?

Lyfta helps make the world accessible and relatable to our students. By engaging with real people and their stories, children are introduced to a rich tapestry of experiences and perspectives. This exposure not only broadens their understanding of global issues but also encourages them to reflect on shared values and their own roles in the wider world.

How We Use Lyfta at Barrowford

We have designed our Lyfta approach to ensure every child benefits from age-appropriate, meaningful engagement. By tailoring activities to each class, we maximise the impact of these powerful learning experiences.

  • Weekly Lyfta Assemblies in Classes: Instead of whole-school assemblies, Lyfta assemblies are conducted within individual classes. This allows teachers to adapt discussions and activities to the age and understanding of their pupils, making the stories accessible and impactful for all.
  • Celebration Assemblies: Each week, a class shares their reflections on the Lyfta Storyworld they explored. They present their thoughts, feelings, and lessons learned, fostering a sense of shared understanding and celebration within the whole school community.
  • In-Class Learning: Teachers integrate Lyfta’s resources into everyday lessons, enhancing topics across subjects, enriching discussions, and connecting students to real-world experiences.
  • Global Connections: Through Lyfta, children are encouraged to think critically and empathetically, building a strong sense of connection and belonging to a global community.

Additionally, the stories explored through Lyfta are thoughtfully planned as part of our Cultural Capital curriculum and calendar. They align with themes from history, literature, and global awareness, linking different areas of learning to create cohesive and meaningful experiences that deepen engagement and understanding.

Our Vision

At Barrowford, we believe that stepping into the lives of others is a powerful way to develop empathy, global awareness, and a sense of agency. By experiencing Lyfta’s immersive stories, our students gain the knowledge, confidence, and compassion to make meaningful contributions to their communities and beyond.

Lyfta at Barrowford is more than a teaching resource—it’s a bridge to understanding the world, inspiring children to see themselves as part of a brighter, more connected future.
