At Barrowford School, we view cultural capital as the foundation that helps children understand who they are, where they come from, and their place in the wider world. It’s about equipping our pupils with the knowledge, experiences, and skills they need to navigate life with confidence, empathy, and an appreciation for diversity.
Our cultural capital curriculum is carefully planned across the year, with a focus split into three terms and further refined into weekly themes. Using the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) calendar as a guide, we explore Rounded and Grounded skills, a country of the week, music genres, poetry, artists, picture books, “I Wonder Wednesday” activities, and immersive experiences through Lyfta storyworlds. This approach ensures our pupils are exposed to a broad range of perspectives, experiences, and ideas, fostering curiosity, empathy, and understanding.
By fostering a love for learning about the world and creating opportunities for meaningful connection and dialogue, we aim to prepare our children to become active, informed, and compassionate members of their communities—both locally and globally.
