Our Teachers
In Year 6, your teachers are Cal Whitfield, Grace Nicholson & Karl Cross
Your interveners are Lyndsay Hunter, Steph Crew, Grace Astin
They are excited about the learning you are doing in this year group.
Your project questions will be:
- How has the movement of people affected Britain?
- What would a world without ice be like?
- What might human beings look like in the future?
Learning Time
There will always be a visual timetable in the classroom.
This is what a day will usually look like:
- 08:45 – 09:05 Registration, responding to feedback & problem solving.
- 09:00 – 09:35 Guided reading.
- 09:35 – 10:35 English (Wednesdays will be creative independent writing).
- 10:35 – 10:50 Break time.
- 10:50 – 12:00 Maths.
- 12:00 – 12:30 Lunch play time.
- 12:30 – 13:00 Lunch eating.
- 13:00 – 13:10 Registration & Mindfulness.
- 13:10 – 13:30 Spellings or Handwriting.
- 13:30 – 14:40 Project learning.
- 14:50 – 15:10 Assembly.
- 15:10 – 15:30 Storytime and then hometime.
Music
You will learn the cornet this year. Music lessons are on a Friday.
PE/Woodland/BFC
- Our PE session is on a Thursday afternoon.
- Our Woodland session is a Monday afternoon.
- The swimming pool is coming in October 2024.
Library Visits
We will visit the library once a term.
Assemblies
- Monday – R&G, SDGs & UNCRC & In The Media Monday (Picture News)
- Tuesday – Picture Book
- Wednesday – I Wonder Wednesday
- Thursday – Lyfta
- Friday – Celebration Assembly
- Every week you will learn about a different country, artist, music genre and a poem.
- Singing Assembly will be on Wednesday afternoon.
Playtime
You will play Playworks games with your friends. These will teach you how to take turns, follow rules, lose and win well and be part of a team.
Lunchtime
- You will order your lunch in the morning or bring a packed lunch from home.
- At lunchtime, you will wash your hands and then eat your lunch in the classroom.
- There will be some time to play out, playing Playworks games.
Toilets
If you need the toilet, ask the teacher at a convenient time.
Trips, Visits & Celebrations
- There will be a school trip linked to a project.
- We will go and listen to the Halle Orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall in the Spring Term.
- People may visit our class to help with our projects.
- We will celebrate Christmas, Eid, Fathers’ Day, Mothers’ Day, World Book Day, Harvest, Easter, birthdays and lots of other events during the school year.
- We will lead a whole school assembly about Year 6 Leavers on July 17th.
End of the day
- There will always be a story at the end of every day.
- At hometime, your teachers will take you onto the playground to meet your parents. Please make sure your teacher knows who you are leaving with at the end of the day.
Home Learning & Reading Books
- You will get home learning on a Monday.
- Your reading book will be changed every Monday and Wednesday.
